Why did you join WCR?

"I joined the WCR in 1969-1970 - our first year in the new clubhouse - when a dear friend asked me to visit. Several friends invited me to join. I saw immediately that the diversity of The Woman's Club of Raleigh gave me the opportunity to participate in many different worthwhile and interesting programs and projects. With a small child at home this was exactly what I needed...one club with a diversity of activities. Later I realized that I truly believed in the mission and objective of the GFWC and the WCR. I still do!"  Julene

"I joined the Woman's Club after I retired because I had been a member of the Durham Junior Woman's Club for about 10 years when I was younger and was familiar with the work the Woman's Clubs do to support the community. Another reason was as a way to meet other women in Raleigh since I had worked out of town for the past 23 years. The Club offers many, many volunteer opportunities so that you can find things you are interested in supporting."   Pat

"I had been a member of a GFWC club in Pennsylvania for many years, and knew that when I moved I could find a great group of women quickly if I joined the Woman's Club of Raleigh.  Any place I would ever go in the U.S. I know that I could find a local club and be part of a greater organization."  Cherie

"As a newcomer to Raleigh, I wanted to be part of an organization whose members were tenacious in pursuing their commitment to making a drastic difference towards the betterment of this community. This I found to be the WCR."  Elva

"I joined because I wanted to meet women from other areas of town, it seemed that everyone I knew lived right around me.  Since joining WCR several years ago I've met wonderful, caring women from all over the Raleigh area that I truly treasure."  Jan

“The thing that I enjoy most are the people I’ve met.  There are some wonderful people, really smart." Jane

“That’s why I renewed my membership – the people.  I like this type of s
mall gathering best." Carol
~~~~~~~~
"I moved into the area from Albuquque so I knew no one.  I realized that I didn’t want to just do things around the house and I have always been a volunteer.  Someone suggested the Woman’s Club and when I heard what the club is involved with, I thought, that’s my kind of club - crisp, sharp, with lots of involvement.” Judith
"We moved here from Washington, DC after having lived there for over 30 years.  I was very involved with work there.  When I came here I wasn't ready to be put out to pasture.  I like the project management aspect of different things, like the Antique Show, and I got involved with that right off the bat.  Plus, I enjoy the people.  Gerry
"I am thrilled to be part of an organization focused on women's issues.  For the past 100 years, GFWC has really made a contribution to women's health and children's issues.  Another thing I love about this organization is it is not focused on just one thing.  I, myself, don't just have one single interest, so an organization that is multi-faceted is perfect!  The women of Woman's Club of Raleigh all have that altruistic gene and it's really fun to be around.  Our club has 400 members and that is exciting!"  Susan
